I am Naomi’s sense of childlike wonder. I am overwhelmed by love and support and humbled by the way my mighty tribe has risen to carry me through my final moments.
I told Mike I feel like I’m living inside my own personal Make-a-Wish Foundation. Y’all sure know how to make a girl feel the love.
A series of wonder posts to follow will seek to capture just a few of the myriad ways in which my closest family and friends, and more casual acquaintances, too, have sprinkled magic fairy dust just for me. My profuse apologies in advance to anyone I forget. I think it’s impossible to capture the magnitude of the outpouring of support I/we have received over the past month.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t start with the two rocksteady rockstars of THE FINAL COUNTDOWN. Mike and my mom have stood stalwartly by my side since my health began to deteriorate in early January as a result of my final chemo treatment. They have worked their hearts out to make sure my needs — physical and emotional, small and large — are met. And they have done so with gentleness, kindness, selflessness, good humor and incredible team work. Never have I seen a mother-in-law/son-in-law duo like these two. They seamlessly plan and cook meals; keep the house clean, tidy, cozy, and ready for company; and provide loving, patient companionship. They are my secret weapon and I literally owe being alive to them.
I’m the luckiest of the unlucky girls around.
